== Summary ==

Only VAX ever made that could low-level format its own hard drive. Otherwise, these machines are plain useless. The I/O speed is miserable (even by the standards of its time), it only supports MFM hard disks (RD54's are highly unreliable), and support for the tape interface (which is really standard SE SCSI) is kludged in VMS to only support the TK50Z (a standard SCSI TK50 hardwired to SCSI ID 1 and internally terminated), and nothing else--even though its NEC 5380 SCSI controller is more than capable of supporting hard drives, CD-ROM drives, and more...
== Historical Summary ==

{{HistoricalSummary}}

The first VAX I ever owned. It doesn't work at all, being plagued with a dead RD54 hard drive and a dead ethernet board. If I get it working, it will most likely be with a replacement hard drive and a TK50Z expansion. Not a terribly high priority right now
