Otherwise, these machines are plain useless. The I/O speed is miserable (even by the standards of its time), it only supports MFM hard disks (RD54's are highly unreliable), and support for the tape interface (which is really standard SE SCSI) is kludged in VMS to only support the TK50Z (a standard SCSI TK50 hardwired to SCSI ID 1 and internally terminated), and nothing else--even though its NEC 5380 SCSI controller is more than capable of supporting hard drives, CD-ROM drives, and more...<br /> <br /> == Historical Summary ==<br /> <br /> {{HistoricalSummary}}<br /> <br /> The first VAX I ever owned.
